Prerequisite

For successful implementation, it is highly recommended that site leadership complete Preparation & Implementation training prior to prospective mentors completing Mentor Training.

Audience

This training is designed for:

  • Those assigned the role of Check & Connect® mentor
  • Those interested in Check & Connect® mentoring principles and practices
  • Check & Connect® site coordinators who oversee the implementation

Objectives

Participants will learn about and understand the:

  • Core components and elements of Check & Connect®
  • Role and expectations of the Check & Connect ®mentor
  • Population of students they are mentoring and how to best meet their needs
  • Implementation procedures for "Check" and "Connect" with fidelity
  • Competencies and skills needed to be an effective mentor, such as:
    • Building relationships with students, families, and school personnel
    • Using data to determine interventions
    • Problem–solving
    • Engaging with families
