In addition to implementing Check & Connect across the state of Washington with foster care youth, we at Treehouse use another evidence based practice derived from person-centered planning which we call student-centered planning. Use of this goal-setting and action-step defining practice has proven effective for youth in foster care who often have adults making the majority of decisions for them. Our program model also provides financial support for incentives, participation in extracurricular opportunities, and removal of educational barriers. We will share how utilizing a combination of support services, in coordination with Check & Connect, enables Treehouse to provide our youth essential support and resources to achieve their educational goals.
