Engaging Students through School-wide College Readiness

Today, school leaders must prepare all students for high school graduation and to obtain a postsecondary degree or certificate. Students need support with academics, but also with career exploration, postsecondary options, social emotional skill development and financing college. We will present a comprehensive definition of college readiness and program model based on research and implementation in Minnesota secondary schools. When students understand the connections from the classrooms to their future, improvement can be found with their engagement in school, their ability to make sound educational decisions and their capacity to regulate their behavior in ways that promote academic success.

Jennifer Kunze

Jennifer Kunze is committed to high quality curriculum, instruction and teacher learning that promulgates equitable outcomes for students who as a result, are prepared for full democratic citizenship. Jennifer has worked as a social studies teacher, instructional coach, district-level teaching and learning coordinator, and director of Ramp-Up to Readiness. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota.


Julie Sweitzer

Julie Sweitzer is Executive Director of the College Readiness Consortium at the University of Minnesota, and co-directs the Educational Equity Resource Center. Julie served three terms on the St. Louis Park School Board. Previously Julie was Director of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action and Associate General Counsel for the U of M. She holds a Masters of Public Affairs from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
